Bengal, along with many parts of Eastern India, has been an extremely volatile space when it comes to migration, bonded labour, and refugee-hood.
These three films represent a cameo of life that operates within multiple communities, some originally belonging to the soil, some marginalized on account of their class, ‘racial’ or religious background and some enjoying their middle class privileges. The entire discourse happening in these images is represented through the process of mapping these communities with the aid of the mundane everyday smells as a central element of divide.
